 Welcome to Curriculum Services Distance Learning Center.  On this page you will find information on the various distance learning opportunities available to you.  To serve James Sprunt Community College's (JSCC) students and the community, JSCC offers a variety of distance learning courses utilizing audio, video, and computer technologies and using synchronous (same-time) and asynchronous (anytime) instruction.

TO ENROLL IN A DISTANCE LEARNING COURSE:  Students must follow the admissions process of the College  (complete a general application  to the College) prior to registering and paying the tuition and fees for this course.

Spring Semester 2008, Distance Learning Courses at the College include the following:

WEB-BASED COURSES (INTERNET) Jan. 4 - May 5:

Students must have access to a multimedia computer with an internet connection, a web browser ( The courses are best viewed on Netscape 3.01 or higher or Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher), word processing program such as the latest version of Word, Word Perfect or Note Pad), and Mail preferences configured to open Mail To: commands.  Students are required to attend an Orientation session for Distance Learning courses.


Students may utilize the computers in the Academic Support Center (ASC) located in Hoffler Building Room 105 on the JSCC campus to complete the course work.  In addition, the staff in the ASC will be available to provide any assistance you may need in the class.  The hours of operation for the ASC are 8. a.m. - 9 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Friday.

ITV (Video Conferencing) courses use the North Carolina Information Highway network to deliver/receive course content. This is a two-way interactive television (synchronous communication) session between two or more agencies. This is different than a telcourse in that there is real-time interaction between the instructor and student (very similar to the traditional classroom). The courses conducted as NCIH courses are delivered/received in the NCIH classroom at James Sprunt Community College, located in room 107 of the Boyette Building.
